Not that the world or human life as a whole would end, but instead he claimed the West had won a major victory. The world had tried and totally exhausted all viable political and economic systems, and it was clear Western Liberalism was the undeniable victor. The universalization of Western liberal democracy was “the final form of human government” and “the end point of mankind’s ideological evolution.”&nbsp;At the time, it wasn’t necessarily a wild proposition. That’s not to say Fukuyama didn’t have his detractors and critics, but it was clear Western liberal democracy had won the Cold War. <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.ranker.com/list/soviet-union-collapsed/michael-muir">Communism had failed</a>. Its two largest proponents had seen <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/1989-and-the-birth-of-state-capitalism-in-china-11559313717">major ideological shifts towards Western ideals</a>. Democracy and the concept of individual freedom had been adopted worldwide.
