Elijah Wood was born in Ceder Rapids, Iowa, and spent much of his early childhood there until his mother noticed he had a talent for acting. Wood’s parents owned two delis in Iowa, but after much consideration, they ultimately decided to close it in 1989.

In April of 2010, Elijah Wood experienced a harrowing event when he was almost caught up in a magnitude 6.1 earthquake. The frightening experience occurred in Chile while Wood was preparing for a flight back to America after his animal rescue visit. Wood is an avid advocate for animal rights and is often outspoken about his love for animals.
He was invited to Chile by the Yarur Bascunan Foundation to help them with their efforts to rescue strays after an earthquake in February of 2010. Before the movie aired in cinemas, the fan club was established as a way for movie producers to ensure fans watched the movie.
