Vote up the TV shows that didn't overstay their welcome.

In the TV world, it's tough to find shows that didn't overstay their welcome. Unfortunately, a lot of TV shows end up being like those guests who come over for dinner, stay for two servings of dessert, then refuse to leave until you pack all your belongings and tell them your house is up for sale. (Looking at you, Two and a Half Men.)

That said, there are series that ended on time. They told the story they needed to tell and peaced out, leaving on their own terms rather than go off the rails. From Breaking Bad to Ted Lasso, let's take a look at the shows that hit the eject button at the right time.

  • Breaking Bad

    Number Of Seasons: 5

Show Premise: The addictive drama follows high school science teacher Walter White, who finds out he has cancer. Determined to leave his family better off before he dies, he begins to cook and sell meth with the help of his former student, Jesse Pinkman. However, Walter and Jesse get pulled deeper into the world of crime, complete with feuding cartels, drug lords, DEA investigations, and innocent casualties.

How It Ended: Walter evolves from a man wanting what's best for his family to a greedy and ruthless kingpin, losing his family and himself in the process. Walter realizes what he's become, choosing to right many of his wrongs and to go out in a blaze of glory as he helps Jesse escape from the Aryan Brotherhood. While Walter knows there's no bright tomorrow for him, he affords Jesse a second chance at life and frees him in more ways than one.

  • Number Of Seasons: 6

Show Premise: The superbly titled Schitt's Creek is a smart and riotous sitcom that sees the wealthy Rose family lose their fortune and move to the town of Schitt's Creek, which they once bought as a gag, and adjust to life without money. Expectedly, hilarity ensues as the family struggles to adapt to life without endless luxury. Oh, the travesty of being mid!

How It Ended: In the end, the Rose family receive the happy ending they deserve. They were never bad people to begin with, but they learn valuable lessons about life and the important things that money can't buy, such as the love and friendship from the townspeople of Schitt's Creek. Parents Johnny and Moira head off to California for new opportunities, while Alexis moves to New York for a PR job and David gets married and stays in Schitt's Creek.

  • The Good Place

    Number Of Seasons: 4

Show Premise: The sharply written sitcom The Good Place sees Eleanor Shellstrop arrive in the Good Place, the Heaven-like representation of the afterlife. However, Eleanor knows she wasn't the best person around when she was alive, so she assumes this must have been a clerical error that worked in her favor.

How It Ended: A lot happens in The Good Place, including the characters finding out they aren't in the Good Place at all and were part of an experiment in the Bad Place. However, the ending sees the characters learn all about how people can grow and become better - proving it's never too late to do so. Ultimately, Eleanor and her friends develop stronger morals and use the opportunity to leave the Good Place and enter a final restful and peaceful place.

  • Parks and Recreation

    Number Of Seasons: 7

Show Premise: Much like The OfficeParks and Recreation is all about quirky and interesting characters and their intertwined lives. While the main story follows Leslie Knope, who is the deputy director of the Pawnee Parks and Recreation Department, trying to build a new park, the sitcom becomes about the dynamics and relationships between all the characters.

How It Ended: For Leslie, she ascends to the top of the political mountain, becoming an influential figure in the US government. In addition, other characters such as Andy Dwyer and April Ludgate marry and become parents, while the inimitable Ron Swanson is appointed superintendent of Pawnee National Park. Essentially, every character grows from the first episode to the last, and their futures reflect the journeys they have taken to get there.

      • Ted Lasso

    Number Of Seasons: 3

Show Premise: The heart-warming sports comedy sees American football coach Ted Lasso take control of English soccer team AFC Richmond. He doesn't know much about the sport or its rules, which is abundantly clear from the start, but he connects with and wins over his players and staff with his unwavering optimism and leadership skills.

How It Ended: Ted takes AFC Richmond to second place in the English Premier League, a whisker away from winning the title but a position no one could have ever envisioned before. He departs the club to head back to America where he plans to spend more time with his son (and coach his little league soccer team). By the time he boards the plane, not only is everyone better off on the sports field, but also in their own personal lives.

How It Ended: Avatar: The Last Airbender concludes with Aang succeeding in his quest. With the help of his friends and allies, he is able to stop the war and bring about peace among the nations.
